Departure - Mozart

A live recording featuring Vasco Dantas, (Piano) with Douglas Bostock (Conductor), with the Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim & Radio Antena 2.

Vasco is happy to announce his new CD Departure for Coviello Classics to be released January 2022.  His 5th CD release, this is Vasco's first album with orchestra, a Live Recording with Südwestdeutsches Kammerorchester Pforzheim with Conductor, friend and colleague, Douglas Bostock. This new CD is  dedicated in its entirety to Mozart and includes the wonderful “Jenamy” Piano Concerto no.9.

The three works on this recording were all written whilst Mozart was in the service of Hieronymus Colloredo, Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg. The Dramma per Musica “Lucio Silla” was composed in 1772 at the very beginning of his tenure as Court Concertmaster, the “Jenamy” Concerto just before he relinquished the position five years later. The Symphony KV 338 on the other hand dates from his second period of employment, 1779-1781, this time as Court Organist.

All three are characterised by Mozart’s yearning to escape his lowly status in the city of his birth and desire to spread his wings further afield. Musically and geographically, they signify departure.” © Douglas Bostock

It is actually rather rare that a pianist who is just 28 years old has such lyrical virtuosity. The exceptional talent has already won more than 50 prizes in international competitions. In 2019 he made his piano debut in the world-famous Carnegie Hall in New York.
